By coincidence (coincidence being the central theme of almost ALL indian movies[citation needed]), Jhansi is to act as Deepika's chaperone in Melbourne. Together they seem to conveniently bump into Karthik at every corner.

Deepika takes a liking for Karthik but seems to be sincerely trying to bring Jhansi and Karthik together, all the while hoping that she will win Karthik in the end. The stubborn and at the same time lovelorn Jhansi is not willing to open up and sort out issues and her hidden fears makes things worse. Karthik does not understand what drives Jhansi's fears. Vishal and his mother (Rohini) live with Saravanan and his mother (Manorama). It is a family that is typical to most Tamil movies. The villagers just venerate this big family.

Pitted against them is the other big one ----PVS family (peopled by Nadhiya, Vijayakumar and Nasser). And then there is Banu (Bhanu). Bharani, as cinema rules mandate, loves Banu. In a sense, he has rights to marry Banu as we are told that Sakunthala (Nadhiya) is the estranged wife of Saravanan. The two had parted ways over Saravanan’s extreme fondness for his sister (Bharani’s mother).

It all builds towards a heightened climax as the two young lovers try to hammer out peace between the two families and principally between the at-war hubby and wife

Poi

Poi (2006) is a Tamil feature film, directed by K. Balchander.

The story is about how lies can have a domino effect and how a simple harmless lie may cascade into something really dangerous and life threatening. K.B. does really brilliant mega serials and as a veteran he is trying to adapt and compete with the younger generation of directors. He does fit in in some places but then there are others where he is grossly lacking. To his credit he is one of the best directors that Tamil movie ever had for the longest time with his active era extending from 1965 through early1990's. And this movie not to be outdone by his previous hits surely has the element that makes K.B's style of direction unique but it also sadly acts as the movies flaw and downfall.

Kamban (Uday Kiran) is the son of Valluvan (Avinash) a straightforward politician who will not bend laws even if it is to get his son out of jail when arrested for no fault of his. The opposition party take advantage of this and bail Kamban out and also publicly announce Kamban joining his father's opposition party. Kamban did not know any of this would happen and he did not want to hurt his father. To escape from the embarrassment Kamban escapes to Srilanka till everything cools down a bit.

In Lanka he meets Ganguly a Bengali immigrant whom he befriends and shares a room with. During a stroll on the beach his eye catches a diary with Tamil poems and starts liking the poet. the imaginary father he had created in his mind instigates him to fall in love with the author of the poems and Kamban takes it upon himself as a challenge to make Shilpa (Vimala) fall in love with him. But Vimala who is vacationing with her brother is an achiever and does not believe in wasting time in love.

What happens? Do things work out? Does the imaginary father or the imaginary fate (Prakash Raj) that Kamban creates in his brain win? What happens to Vimala? All to be seen in the later part of the movie.

The story is no doubt a family subject. It has elements of mother sentiment, love, husband-wife doubts, imaginary father and fate, father sentiment, annoying third wheel from Bombay who claims that he was in love with the heroine since she was in 5th or 6th standard, etc. It could have been a commercial movie hadn't there been too many slowing factors. As far as acting goes everyone seems to be on the good page but then the story itself lacked the speed and interest which was lost due to introduction of many unwanted characters. It is okay for one time watch although you might be asking yourself again and again why you are doing this to yourself. Uday Kiran was a promising young Telugu actor who landed himself into trouble after breaking the engagement with Chiru's daughter and now his break into the Tamil industry seems nothing but bleak.

Alaipayuthey

Story

Karthik (Madhavan) is an engineering graduate who happens to lay eyes on Shakti (Shalini), a medical student, at a wedding. The two meet regularly after their initial sighting, on suburban trains, to and from work and university. Karthik and Shakti eventually fall in love. Karthik's father Varadarajan, a lawyer, comes to learn of the two's relationship and approaches Shakti's dad Selvaraj. He asks Selvaraj, a railway employee, for his consent to a marriage proposal between the two young lovers. However, upon meeting, the two parents clash, and the wedding is called off. Shakti decides she will not get married without her parents' consent, and the relationship between herself and Karthik is called off altogether.

Unable to stay separated for very long, coupled with chance meetings, Karthik and Shakti find themselves resuming their relationship, albeit secretly, without the knowledge of their respective families. They decide to get married, without telling anyone, but carry on living with their parents, hoping that a time will come when both families will see eye to eye and can be told of the development. With the help of their friends, and Shakti's elder sister Poorni, their marriage is completed legally, and all the while, they continue to meet each other without their parents' knowledge.

Shakti's elder sister Poorni is approached with an engagement proposal soon after. Poorni is willing to accept the offer to marry the suitor - Raghu. The prospective groom's father offers his second son's hand in marriage to Shakti. Shakti's mother Saroja urges her to accept the marriage proposal, unaware of the fact that Karthik and Shakti are already together. Shakti eventually tells the truth, and Poorni's engagement is called off. Karthik and Shakthi are kicked out of their homes.

With the help of friends, Shakti and Karthik move into an apartment, in development. They cope for a while, however it's not too long before the couple start arguing over various issues that the two seemed so much more tolerant of before they got married. Marriage tension escalates. Shakti comes to learn that her father is seriously ill back home. She and Karthik decide it would be best to visit him. Upon arrival they learn that her father has passed away. Wracked with guilt, the two return home, their relationship taking a turn for the worse.

The two stop talking to each other. Meanwhile, Karthik takes it upon himself to sort out Poorni's adjourned marriage proposal to Raghu. He arranges a blind date between the two, which initially fails, backfiring on Karthik, however, with more meetings, Poorni and Raghu become closer. This development takes place without Shakti knowing. She and her husband have not spoken to each other for a long time. Karthik wishes to wait until Poorni and Raghu's marriage is confirmed before telling Shakti. Poorni is desperate to tell her sister the news herself. Aasai

Aasai (Tamil: ஆசை) is a Tamil film starring Ajith Kumar and Suvalakshmi. It was an immense hit and launched the careers of Ajith and Suvalakshmi. It won the Filmfare Best Movie Award South in the year of its release.

The story goes around Suvalakshmi, who is one of the two daughters of an orthodox family. The elder sister being married to Prakash Raj, who plays the role of a military officer, dies due to "heart attack", precipitated by Prakash Raj himself!! Ajith, who dons the role of a charming juvenile falls in love with Suvalakshmi. Prakash Raj tricks the family into believing that Ajith is a drunkard and cheat (in a series of events), which results into a break-up between Ajith and Suvalakshmi. Later Ajith is put behind bars for smuggling, where Prakash Raj narrates the whole story to Ajith. Prakash Raj had killed his wife owing to his lust on Suvalakshmi. After overhearing the conversation accidentally, she flees home to tell it to her father. The movie ends with the death of Prakash Raj, who is caught up in the room with his father-in-law. The prowess of the villainous actor, who with no extravagant action sequences had shown one of the best performances in negative role, on-screen was evident.

Vasanth carefully wrapped the essentials of a commercial cinema around a carefully knit story that had loads of opportunities for all participants.

Produced by Mani Rathnam, this low-budget film grossed Rs.50 million at the box office playing for 210 days successfully. Thus it became the first blockbuster in Ajith's illustrious career who was quickly labelled as Aasai Nayagan by the tabloid. Ajith's salary was just under Rs.50,000. This was the debutant film for Suvaluxmi in Tamil, and she won the audiences hearts by her beauty and stunning performance.
